Flying Karamazov Brothers (2000-

Under the nom de guerre Count Martini Karamazov, Ostrowski is Technology Director for theworld-renowned Flying Karamazov Brothers, masters of juggling, witty repartee, and cheap theatrics.

The Flying Karamazov Brothers use a number of interactive sensor-based devices for both music and lighting effects..He is responsible for the care and feeding of these devices, and also serves as consultant and project manager when new projects of this sort come up.

He also appears on stage with the Brothers in their show L'Universe, which has traveled throughout the known world to the amazement of thousands and the plaudits of the critics.

Count Martini Karamazov is featured in episode 9 of the FKB Travelogue.

Streb (1993-2000)

Ostrowski was composer-in-residence for the MacArthur award-winning choreographer Elizabeth Streb. Using contact microphones, sensors, and live processing, to use only sounds generated by the dancers themselves, he developed the direct, visceral sound the company is known for. He toured with them far and wide, from California to Australia, and received many grants and comissions during his tenure there.

Gallio/Ostrowski/Zimmerlin (1989-92)

This trio (saxophone, electronics, and 'cello) recorded three CDs on the Percaso label, and toured Europe and the US with compositions and improvisations, working both purely as a musical group, and in collaborations with photographer Beat Streuli. He has also collaborated solo with Mr. Streuli on installations in Switzerland and New York.

Krackhouse (1989-93)

Ostrowski played tape loops, drum machine, and analog electronics for this Lower East Side noise band. A couple of CDs were recorded, now unfortunately out of print. We were popular in France, for some reason.

Improvisations

A great deal of free music with a lengthy set of improvisors from New York and Europe. A long list of the usual suspects from downtown, John Zorn, Anthony Coleman, Zeena Parkins, Nic Collins, etc. Long-time participant in the Live Cobra project at the Knitting Factory. More recent work in Europe with Justin Bennett, Lorenzo Bruschi, Sophie Agnel, and others.
